Is it Gergely, Gregory or Geri?

Not even he knows.

On his ID he is Gergely, a name proven to be tricky to pronounce for non-Hungarians. The natural fallback option would be Gregory, the English version of Gergely, which he cannot really identify with.

So let's try to go by Geri, a name that appears to be in both languages. Besides which is also the nickname of Gergely.

Geri's first encounter with the web

The year is ~2006 and he is in high school. One of his classmates and best friends presented him with a "trick" on a computer just across the street, in a community space.

He—the friend—opened up a text editor, typed a few short lines of code-looking thing and saved it as an .html. Then he opened the file in a browser and Geri saw a miracle. The text was slowly scrolling across the screen.

Geri was amazed.

He went home and reproduced the phenomenon later that day. The joy of success made him feel like he owned the world.

Later Geri continued to experiment with web technologies and collected an Internet Based App Developer certificate. He hasn't stopped playing with such technologies since then.

For a few years around ~2012 Geri thought of himself as a web developer but after exactly 0 successful projects, he disappointedly looked for a better-paying job.

By the way, it was the—since deprecated— HTML <marquee> element.

Nowadays

Geri is working as the Head of SEO at a full-stack agency, based in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧.

His experience with web technologies proven to be massively valuable when it comes to auditing websites and discussing concepts with developers. Speaking their language positions him as worthy.

Geri’s current role enables him to evolve his people skills as well. Managing a team of five provides plenty of opportunities.
